Title: Separating the tracks of an mp3 file
Post by: Onucia on 15. September 2006, 16:00:05 (04:00 PM)
Does any know if it is possible to isolate the voice from the music in an mp3 (or another format) and if so do you know a program that could do it?

Cool Edit 2000 used to have seperate track editors. It supports up to 36 seperate tracks. I used to use it to rip audio from avi/mpeg back in the day. It runs under xp fine, but I've not seen the app in years.  :-[

CoolEdit has been bought by Adobe and is now called Adobe Audition.

Although it is a multi-track editor, mp3's are unfortunately not. If you import an mp3 all you will get is a single stereo track.

If you want to split up the mp3 you will need some sort of filter or algorithm to do it, and there isn't really anything that can do this perfectly. It usually involves setting up a frequency filter that matches the voice range and filter it out. But you'll still get some voice in the music and some music in the voice.
