oooooo.... Finally can visit my favorite place from EQ1 again... OS.. here i came )if SOE is adding it to content
-
As usual I'm the voice of dissent.
Epic weapon quests are something SoE said they would never do in EQ2, and for good reason. To renege on that, and as an EQ1 guild leader who tried to complete epics for all classes this more than anything I believe will bring an end to my time in EverQuest 2.
Kunark sounds good, level cap rise is needed but I seriously doubt I'll stick around because of the epic quests. Very bad move IMO.
-
Wait before you take a rash decision Ethy, it will depend on how SoE created the quest, if you're alergic to it just don't take part in the questing, I'd understand. If they do something similar to Claymore and with stuff that has to be soloed for each classe independently for exemple it can be really cool.

I hope you folks aren't getting too excited about this yet, release is still 6 months away...

From what I remember, epic weapons were said to not be included in the first version of eq2 and not that they would never be part of the game. And actualy a lot of people were asking for them to be puted in the game.
Now I have both good and bad memories about epics so I'm waitting to see how they put it.
-
Aye there was some really nice stuff. Some parts of the quest were fun and you were able to discover the history and meaning of your class with them. The bad parts came from the insane camps, the annoying raid that 30+ people were making just to get a piece of the quest for 1 character only... Eq2 is far less boring so I'm quite confident.
-
I will reserve judgement and see first how they plan to implament it. Epics were such a pain in the ass to do in EQ1, some were easy and others were insanely heard, the mage and enchanter epics come to mind, and of course before the changes to the Cleric ones, that insane camp for that one dragon in SolB/Eye, can't remember which one.
I want to see how they put this in. If its something like the class armor quests that you do around level 20, it might not be too bad. I will just wait to see.

Epic weapons in EQ1 were the most divisive items I have ever experienced. While some were easy and could be single grouped others required extensive raids often multiple times.
Guilds that could not raid to this extent were easy pickings for those that could. Clerics (the essential and only real healing class) were lured away and many guilds collapsed through losing essential classes to others that promised them the epic their current guild struggled to provide. Epics were a status symbol, everyone wanted theirs, and I saw many friendships cast aside in persuit of these.
AS for EQ2, for me it's different. With the CLaymore line it was a common goal, everyone attended, everyone benefitted. With these epic quests it's likely that as with the originals some we'll be able to complete, some we won't.
As raid leader and the person who chooses our targets I don't want the responsibility in deciding which we do or having to deny people the opportunity of their epics based on our raiding schedule and what we can accomplish. No matter how well meaning the intention behind any decision is it will naturally have ramifications upon someone and that's really totally against what I'm about.
I remain convinced epics will be as devisive in EQ2 as they were in EQ1 and I see no sense in including them other than to appease the hardcore.

I'm pretty positive there's a developer post somewhere that touched on epics and stated they were opposed to them and favoured quests such as the Claymore which yielded different rewards but was a collective rather than individual quest.
However I can't be arsed to spend hours searching the board to locate it.
A lot of people have been asking for beastlords, flying mounts and so on, doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea.
I have seriously bad feelings about epic quests, but WAR is due out around that time, maybe a little later so it most likely won;t be something I need to worry about.
