Title: Your favorite book quotes
Post by: Felicitous on 13. May 2008, 19:34:35 (07:34 PM)
In the quote serie: Your favorite book quotes :D

Knock (Jules Romains)

Knock: - Don't mix up. Does that tickle you or does that itch you?
The drum - It scratches me. But that tickles me a little as well...

Knock - Attention. Ne confondons pas. Est-ce que ça vous chatouille, ou est-ce que ça vous gratouille.
Le tambour - Ça me gratouille. Mais ça me chatouille bien un peu aussi...

Mort (Terry Pratchett)

Doorknocker : oooh, I like it when you treat me rough

Rhapsody (Elisabeth Haydon)

"...Take the Friendmaker, for instance. Oi called 'im that, and now, when people see 'im, they instantly want to be my friend. Those that live, o' course."

Milton, Paradise Lost:
"...to undo in one day
what he, Almighty styled in six"

H.P Lovecraft, The Call of Cthulhu:
"That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons even death may die."

Also from Paradise Lost, and used in Frankenstein
"Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay
To mould me man? Did I solicit thee
From darkness to promote me?"

Little items you can put in your house that give you quests sometimes.

heh, of course...  that's where I've heard of them.

That actually got me thinking of some times that Polaara and I have had at work where we've been talking about EQ2 stuff and people around us have looked utterly puzzled as to what we're saying.

Such utterly cryptic (well, to non-players anyway) items such as:

"I was trying to run through some oranges, but I got stunned and inevitably debt followed."

and

"The mob kept breaking loose after memwiping and going straight for the priests; big repair bill that night."

We really are a breed of our own, MMOers.

Yeh i get that alot cyno when talking to Velas IRL about eq2 people give you the oddest looks. But i find that you see things IRL differently like wondering what you get from harvesting bushes you see or seeing shineys while driving etc

One quote I'll always remember, from the book La nuit des temps (The ice people) written by Rene Barjavel:

"l'arbre dans la vallée ouverte jusqu'à l'âme" ("the tree in the valley open up to the soul")

A nice metaphor  ::)
