I am absolutely in love with my necro, thanks to Treles advising me on getting the game changing OP Tainted Heals I am breezing through the world, taking on heroics and soloing dungeons. My concern is that I am reading more and more on the official forums and EQ2flames that when it comes to grouping, getting one as a necro in the top end of the game (where all of you lot are) the necro has the short end of the deal and that summoner spots go more to conj than necros.
Should I change to a conj? Can the conj solo as well as a necro? Soloing is very important to me, since I love exploring and grouping at the bottom end of the level scale never happens.
Currently at 32 on my necro with 29 AA.
In two minds about this, my necro is amazing, should I rather just roll up a character that is needed in groups as an alt for later on? Mystic? Templar? For an alt I want to roll up on good side to see a different side of the world.
Your years of EQ2 experience and advice will be appreciated ;-)

necros solo better than conji's, trade off is conjis do more dps in a grp, especially aoe, necros can still do big dps but the arent as popular with grps as other mages

Personally, I would say stick with what is fun now rather than worry about later. If you are completely new to EQ, I would suggest that if you roll a toon just to be considered much later in the end game, you run the risk of not liking that toon and that tainting your whole experience of the game.
You are going to be on your own a LOT of the time whilst levelling, so you want that to be fun.
It's meant to be fun. If you enjoy your Necro - stick with your Necro!

Stuff like that also tends to change per expansion. Back when I still raided, necros were in high demand. We've had two raiding necros for a long while back then (zetsumei, whom you'll probably know as crim or a multitude of other names ;) and myself), and I think we've even had a period that we raided with three necros.

I don't think there's a whole lot of difference between good and evil in EQ2. This only real difference is in the starterzones, after level 20 or so almost all areas and quests are available to any class/race. If you're going to start an alt, I would recommend Gorowyn as starter area, I quite enjoyed the storyline there.

Great advice! I will stick with the necro then, I am exploring every nook and cranny, hunting every named I can find and doing every quest I can. The necro is perfect for that it seems with invis and awesome solo ability vs heroics and nameds. I am outlevelling my quests pretty fast even at my slider at 50% for AA.
It is awesome fun though!
Pity about the same zones for level ranges, I was hoping for more. I will roll an alt next month when I can afford another premium mount, hoofing it around just wont do! Probably will roll another caster, love em to bits. Probably a mystic or warden.

I'm also levelling this particular toon slowly so I can get the most amount of AA's possible. So if you catch me up, I'll definitely be up for some grouping with you. O0

There's plenty :) Just check http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Zones_By_Level

Only 2 per range though and I have done both on my necro (nek and thundering steppes), when I do an alt I will do thundering steppes and BB I reckon.
Still a lot of variety though!

You can also go to Butcherblock and even early parts of EL and Zek at those levels. :)

ARGH! Found out this weekend that the ability to solo heroics and heroic nameds is something that stops in the tier 2 zones. In my exploration through Zek I found out that even a necro has to throw everything they have to solo a heroic. The difficulty has upped a bit. Still fun though!
