Title: EQ1 nostalgia
Post by: Nympha on 22. October 2010, 18:13:10 (06:13 PM)
So last night for whatever reason, i was reminded of the big leet EQ1 uberguild Fires of Heaven. Started browsing their forums for a bit today and came across this vid that gave me some goosebumps...

It was in the latter part of 2000, about a year and a half after EQ1 came out, that I first tried the game.  I'd read some news article about some Korean kid who had been found dead in a gaming cafe as a result of self neglect from playing.  I thought to myself, "that has got to be one freakin' awesome game."  The rest is history.

Quickly coming up on my 10 year anniversairy of playing MMOs.  Norrath remains my favourite place of all time.  Yay EverQuest!

Aside from EQ1 and EQ2, I've managed to fit in some not-insignificant time playing AO and SWG, but that's about it; though I think I've probably tried another five-or-so that've come out and not been at all hooked.

Started EQ1 (my first serious MMO attempt) just after Kunark released, how long ago is that? I've played so many MMO's after that, but EQ1 (and pre-nge SWG) still hold a special place - my official SOE EQ1 account has all expansions except the latest I think.

Tried EQ1 again a short while ago (the Project 1999 thing) but with todays games, EQ1 feels limited to what you can do, besides camp a spot and fight mobs.

Hoping SW:TOR will get me back to that classic feeling of enjoying an MMO like I did back in the day.
Enjoying EVE atm btw :).

Heh.. P99 was a nice reminder of how harsh an environment EQ1 was. I dinged level 5 three or four times on my druid there, level loss on death sucks :)

I think I started my account in november 2000, so I guess next month is 10 years of MMOs for me (well, actually there was this text-based mud before EQ, that's where I met Haly who got me into EQ in the first place :) ). Played quite a few of them as well, although EQ1, EQ2 and WoW are the only ones I've played for any significant amount of time.

Original activation date: December 7, 2000, had to look it up :)
First stint lasted till february 2004 according to payment history, when I started mostly just playing SWG.

Man, I should make a list what games I played when and for how long. Some games I've played less then I remember them.

Had about a month of EQ1 very late in the game.  Probably in 2003 or so.  Then SWG from launch until EQ2.

It was Cyno's fault I got into MMO's.
