Have to wonder though, if anyone interview actually answered anything sensible and was edited out, or if they all answered like that...  :D

Of course they do. Would not be very interesting if they should people giving the right answer. We make fun of ourselves about this btw. There used to be a show called Street Smarts that depended on finding stupid people. of course the rest of the world knows everything and only Amercians are stupid. I also love the fact that we are pretty much despised by most everyone in the world until someone gets thier ass in a bind. Then it is "give us money!!" or in Frances case "get us out of this while we run away please!!" We get criticized for not sending 2 trillion dollars to the tsunami relief fund but when New Orelans gets flooded and thousands lose their homes the response from the rest of the world? "Tough shit"

WE're not perfect but damn I get tired of the bash the Americans crap.

Well bingle, there's a bit more to what you said that made nearly the whole world dispise US...(mainly the fact that when Bush became president, he said screw you to other countries and stopped nearly every treaty that wasn't giving an advantage to the US)...after that, pretty much anything is just used as a confirmation of the hate to Bush...and thus the people from US get part of that hatred too...I don't agree with the method but it's human do react like that...
Now yes I think people are getting a bit too high with that...but people have to get their frustration out somehow...

Trust takes a long time to build and only a few seconds to destroy. Hopefully it'll get rebuilt with the next president (I don't think Bush will be given a chance to build it back)

I think that is what pisses me off. I think the guy is evil I mean really evil. Not just stupid. The problem is we pay for (we being the citizen's). I do alot of international work and have spent most of my life living outside the US. I know how arrogant we can be. I have been doing alot of reading of publications from other countries lately (as well as of course our own). We are ALL looked at as stupid, arrogant and self centered. To me that is no better than saying all Italians are mafia or all the English have bad teeth or al Muslims are terrorists.

I also know  me ranting about it here will change nothing but it makes me feel better. I just have a real issue with intolerance or hate based on a GROSS generalization.

Yeah like I said I don't think it's right...and most likely abg people will realize US people are not like Bush when he leaves...but having a president with a big "I'm an stupid bastard...and I've been reelected" on his forehead...doesn't really give a good image from the US...
I really hope this image will fades fast once he leaves 'cause I completly understand why that kind of generalisation makes you angry...it would make me angry too if it was my country...I hate every kind of generalisation...'cause they are ALL false

I agree with you bing. It is an unfair stereotype. This kind of thinking is no better than any kind of racial or cultural discrimination and I for one will not be a part of it.

Lets face it, americans are all stupid, germans eat sauerkraut all day, italians have pasta on pizza and the poles steal everything you can't hide fast enough!

Calm down people, don't take such stuff too serious, it always was around and will always be around, i can't recall how often i've been called a nazi in online games.

And btw total idiocy is not an american thing, we got those shows over here too and it's embarrassing really, but nothing more.

Just to reinforce a stereotype: I am English, have very bad teeth, drink a lot of tea, and devote much of my time to wanton hooliganism. I also have a country bumpkin accent. Oo-arr and so forth.

yeah Chil it was not the video that set me off. It was something that happened to one of my best friends in RL a few days ago that set me off. It is  the ignorance of some people and people who make assumptions based on or in the case of my friend take out their rage or whatever on someone just because they are different or a specific color or race or sexual orientation. Jokes are one thing but the hate I have seen in the last few days has been beyond any reasonable explanation.

This was probably not the best place to do it but for some reason the video was a catalyst about stereotypes or soemthing that hit a nerve.

Does that mean I can stop living on a cheese mountain and eating chocolate all day while selling watches to get more money in my banks?   :o

As with all stereotypes, it's the vocal minority that create them and the vocal minority that continue them. I know way too many Americans that I doubt could locate the land of the Swiss on a map, or even tell me what part of Europe Germany is in. While dumb Americans aren't the majority, it's the minority of fat nascar beer drinkers that make the news, or are on tv etc all the time that portray the us as stupid. I can see Bing being annoyed at it, but a lot of people bring it on themselves as well, perpetuating the stereotypes instead of making any effort. Again, i can only speak for us yanks and from my own experiences. It's easier to sit back and watch things stay the same than it is to make an effort and see the larger world.

In the last 10 years that I've been online, I met more foreign born people on IRC and online gaming and seeing the US and the world in general through their eyes makes one realize how much bullshit really goes on in the world. i once had to break up with a really cute chinese girl because her parents were not happy I was a skinny white guy, etc.

The US no longer leads the world in anything in 2007, and we've done that to ourselves (to get back to the original topic). I may hate Bush, and blame him for a lot of things, but he didn't start ignorance, he just continues the fine american tradition of it.

I can't wait until the Japanese invade with their army of japanese school girls.
