When I got my new PC with Vista it looked to be very true, lots of blue screens, crashes, software not working.....
.... the problem was not Vista after all, it was a bad memory bank. Got back to the store and they replaced it and gone was my Vista trouble.

Sure it crashes sometimes, but so did XP from time to time. I cant' say I have more trouble with Vista, the only trouble are some of the companies that don't update their drives (Creative no 6.1 sound support).

Played the Crysis demo on high settings and I can say that I am very happy now with my PC.

My sisters boyfriend got a new computer.. I lended him some games.. spellforce2 and neverwinternights.. none worked..
I tried to explin to him in phone how to set "run in compatible mode" and to check permissions..
And finaly when we succeded to simply start loading the game the CD copy protection check for spellforce couldnt install on Vista.

I must say that with my little knowledge of it Vista sux.. I would still use my w95/98 for playing games if I would be able to get desent drivers.. Yes I know the multitasking support and shit.. but w.t.h.. i'm not running any background programs anyway.. I'm just playing so i'm happy if my computer focus on one task and if that crash just reboot.

I had some trouble installing protected games too, I got some started after I downloaded an updated version of the copy protection. I can't remeber where I got those updates as usualy 'old' games don't last long on my harddrive but it's somewhere out there on the net.

My biggest problem was to get EQ2 to run properly, kept crashing with out of memory errors and I had 4gb! Seems to be stable now running in compatible mode..... famous last words lol  ;D

When I first started the beta version of a certain game, it popped up a helpful dialog box explaining that my version of Vista needed to be patched to prevent 'out of memory' errors occuring. I followed the link given, and sure enough it took me to an official Microsoft support page explaining that there is a problem with Virtual Addressing that specifically affects game development. From that article you can download a patch for Vista 32 and 64 that should fix the problem. :)

I had already installed the patch that prevented vista itself crashing with more than 3Gb ram... The problem with EQ  was finally resolved by running it in XP compatibility mode... touch wood...
Interestingly, I was using Qeynos Harbor as a test bed as that always seemed to be where I would most likely crash and the out of memory error appeared to on the  graphics card. I thought this was unlikely as I was using an Nvidia 8800 GTX. There was something about it on one of the related forums, but I can't remember where and as I say the problem was resolved by running it in compatibility mode.

Damn Vista, can't even crash consistently. ;)

I've never had Vista itself crash while playing games, and I've had 4Gb or RAM since I built this PC 6 months ago. All I ever had was occasionally EQ2 crashing as a result of running out of virtual memory, when running higher than 'balanced' for graphics settings. So far (touch wood!) I've not had any crashes since installing the patch I linked, which is specifically about stopping games crashing in this situation. I've never run in compatibility mode. :)

Well like Vista or not the CE ME NT (Cement) reference made it worth watching. That was brilliant
